Methodology
At SDLC 7 step methodology is used to describe the process for building information systems, intended to develop information systems in a very deliberate, structured and methodical way, reiterating each stage of the life cycle.

Step 1. Initiation:
Generate a high-level view of the intended project and determine the goals of the project.

Step 2. Scoping:
Define scope or boundary of the project. Feasibility study is sometimes used to present the project to upper management in an attempt to gain funding. Projects are typically evaluated in three areas of feasibility: economical, operational or organizational, and technical.

Step 3. Planning:
Develop project management plan which includes timelines, resource planning and client deliverables.

Step 4. Requirement gathering and Analysis:
Develop and Analyze user requirements. Prepare functional specification document.

Step 5. Design:
Transform requirements into system design document. This will consist how each functionality will be achieved through system design.

Step 6. Development:
Convert design into a complete information system. This will involve coding, compiling, unit testing, system integration testing and performing review and procurement activities.

Step 7. Testing, Implementation and Maintenance:
This will involve system testing and functional testing. Demonstrates that system conforms to requirements specified in functional document. It is conducted by Quality Assurance staff and business analyst.

Implementation includes implementation of system in a production environment.

Maintenance includes post production support and In-Process review and Describes end of system activities and emphasis is given to proper preparation of data.
